Technology scares me. When 8-track tape playes became popular. I stuck with my record player. When cassette players became popular, I traded my record player for an 8-rack tape player. When CD’s became fashionable, I bought a cassette player . When DVD’s was the craze .. I am still with a CD player… hahahahaha. That was 8 years ago. Engaging into an Internet CafĂ© business opened my eyes with the technology. I learned that we should manage to stay updated to fit-in to this media driven world.

Today, I felt incomplete with-out using multi-media on my lectures ( Small group Bible studies are exempted and in cases of unavailability of LCD). I enjoyed preparing powerpoint, movie maker and uploading videos. I believed that we remember much more of what we both hear and see as opposed to only hearing or only seeing. Do you agree with me?

I took my son to see Transformers 2 last Friday and we enjoyed it so much. Absolutely surpassed everything I expected. This is the greatest film i’ve ever seen, brilliant story line, the battles were amazing, hilarious ( the funny parts were put in at the right times and got us laughing ), the graphics is outstanding, action from beginning to end, .

It is far better than the first one. We love the new autobots and decepticons. The best 2 ½ hours of entertainment. ! I’m not going to talk about the story as I think you just need to go and see it. I am going to watcg this again with my wife next week over DVD. ( She is now convince that it is worth seeing for.. ) I wish we have IMAX here in our city, it will surely be an awesome experience.

So guys… go and see the movie.Don't be left behind.

In Memory of MJ

Ben, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for
With a friend to call my own
I'll never be alone
And you, my friend, will see
You've got a friend in me
(you've got a friend in me)

Ben, you're always running here and there
You feel you're not wanted anywhere
If you ever look behind
And don't like what you find
There's one thing you should know
You've got a place to go
(you've got a place to go)

I used to say "I" and "me"
Now it's "us", now it's "we"
I used to say "I" and "me"
Now it's "us", now it's "we"
Ben, most people would turn you away
I don't listen to a word they say
They don't see you as I do
I wish they would try to
I'm sure they'd think again
If they had a friend like Ben
(a friend) Like Ben
(like Ben) Like Ben

This is one of my favorites songs by Michael Jackson. I was in my pre-school when my mom relayed to me the story of BEN the Movie. That was the beginning of my love for BEN. I tried my best to look for a copy of that movie, until now it is still unavailable.

Be refreshed... play the video.

I was a little bit emotional last Sunday’s special program for fathers. I was deeply touched by the video presentation , the messages from the children to their fathers and the sermon itself . When my kids and my wife gave me their gifts , I can no longer hold on with my tears. I greatly Praise God that thru His grace that I have been a good father and a faithful husband.

We went for a special lunch buffet. My wife chose a fine dining restaurant where we seldom go. I appreciated very much their gifts – Sports watch from my wife, Biking shirt from my son and 3 pcs of hankies from my little girl.

Michael Jackson finally take his final vow, the show is over... He may have been gratly misunderstood, rediculed and accused by many. But who we are to judge him? He didn't have a normal childhood and life. In his fame and glory, who could have leave a normal life? At least he tried. Got married and have children.

Anyway, I grieved with his lost. I grew up with his songs. Thank you for putting the beat of music into everyone's veins. Rest in peace.

( Play the video below and you will be amazed how his heart beats for deprived children around the worls.)

I find this article by Rick Warren significant fot todays Father's day celebration. Its a reminder for all of us fathers.
"I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those You have given Me, for they are Yours" (John 17:9 NIV).

Jesus reflected the father heart of God when He prayed for the disciples. As a father, or mother, you can pray that your children will focus on the five purposes of God.

God's five purposes for your children are the same as God's five purposes for your life, and the same as the five purposes for the church. Jesus prayed for all five purposes in the lives of those He was leading.

Jesus said, "I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those You have given me, for they are Yours" (John 17:9 NIV).

We can pray that our children will live for Christ joyfully: "I say these things while I'm still in the world so that they will have the same joy that I have" (John 17:13 GWT).

We can pray that our children will grow strong spiritually: "I'm not asking You to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one" (John 17:15 NLT).

We can pray that our children will serve Christ effectively: "Make them ready for Your service through Your truth; Your teaching is truth" (John 17:17 NCV).

We can pray that our children will experience fellowship personally: "My prayer . . . is that they will be of one heart and mind, just as You and I are one, Father . . . and the world will believe You sent me" (John 17:21 LB).

We can pray that our children will bring others to Christ regularly: "I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in Me because of their message" (John 17:20 TEV).

Even if you are not a father, or a mother, you will help others move toward the heart of God by praying for them and the purposes God has planned for their lives.

After 3 weeks at the shop, our car is finally back in our hand. For weeks I have been struggling with my patience over the owner of the auto shop. The services turn unsatisfactory. Completion was delayed by Ten days and the contract price increased by 20 %. Among the three shops referred to me, we decided to hire him believing he was a Christian and a godly one. Hahahahahaha he was not able to live what he profess or he was just caught under pressure of his own lies. He lied when he told me he has a legitimate shop near our office. When the original date of completion came, the car was only 50 % done .He is nowhere to be found and his cell phone is unreachable.

When the car is finally finished? he asked for a 20% additional cost. Whew! My patience and temper was finally tested….. but being a Pastor, I do not have the luxury to flare up. In a cool manner and a calm voice I explained to him my right as a customer and my disappointments. As much as my wife wanted not to pay for the additional cost, I just give him the amount to bring to an end all discussions. The good news was, he acknowledged he was wrong .

Believers need to be reminded on a fairly regular basis of some realities concerning their faith and the God whom they serve. The most important is the God is God. Psalm 100:3 boldly declares “ Know that the Lord is God.” Our Lord God is the creator and sustainer of life. Everything flows from Him. All creation has some from his hand. All creation continues by His power.

Bad things happen when we lose tracks of these facts. We begin rlying on our own strength. We begin walking by sight rather than by faith. We push Godd off the thrones of our hearts and out ourselves there instead.

We all drift into that mode at time or other, don’t we? What is important we must go back from where we have drifter and refresh ourselves.

My Son and I were disappointed that the showing of Transformer : Revenge of the Fallen turned to be on June 24. As much as we wanted to see it on the first day of showing , we can not because it is still school days. My wife does not like the movie because she said it is too fictional and unrealistic…hahahahaha. The clatters and the blast of robot wars annoys her. She’s into love story, musical, martial arts and suspense movies. She said, she rather be at home blogging than watching this movie. Maybe it’s a Men thing.

Me and my Son is captivated with this movie , with its characters Optimus Prime, Rachet and Bumblebee. I am fascinated with its cinematography . It is truly entertaining.

Please do not mis-interpret me hahahahahahaha….. I am just a hands-on Daddy . Last Friday , while waiting for others to arrive for our leaders bonding, I came to have a glimpse of my little girls bangs. It was already long , so immediately I did a rush haircut outside our office. Believe me, Im good at it - ask my wife , my mom and my sisters. I am their beautician… oooopppsss I mean their hair cutter.
( My wife took this photo.I do not want to post this but she insisted.. so that others will see the lighter side of me.)

Death is what the majority of people are most afraid of, and the finality and mortality of this age is clearly written in the scripture. This was the center of my message during the burial of one of our member. In a short message, I encourage them thru the the Gospel and the message of Apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. [14] For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. [15] For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. [16] For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. [17] Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. [18] Therefore encourage one another with these words.

It's a joy to see my children serving the Lord with me. This was during the food distribution at Barangay Macasandig covered court last January 2009. In partnership with operation blessing, we were able to serve 10,000 meals to various flood victims in the city. Our children, Dale and IJ volunteered for this cause.

I wish to treat my wife for an Asia tour on her birthday this July. I already booked a ticket for Manila but I am in a dilemma because of this recent A (H1N1) virus that threatens our country lately. Our target destination is Hong Kong or Singapore. I surfed the net and found that there are already 23 cases in Hong Kong, 14 cases in Singapore while in the Philippines we have a confirmed 33 cases.

I want to surprise her with this trip yet I have an anxious feeling that she might not enjoy it with the threat of the virus disturbing her mind. Time is running out for the Cebu Pacific Airline Promo… What shall I do?

The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice

He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
Beginning and the end

The Godhead Three in One
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

The Paradoxes in a Christian life

(Below is my preaching last wednesday June 3,2009. We enjoyed the fellowship in the midts of an electrical power black out. Thanks to the flash lights and candles...nothing can stop God's Words to be preached....)

Text: Matthew 5:1-5:13

A paradox is a statement that doesn’t seem to make sense; but when understood, makes a lot of sense. In fact, a paradox says something that couldn’t be said as well any other way.

Jesus made some paradoxical statements. He did so to draw the attention of His listeners, who then had to think about what He had said. The Apostle Paul did the same.

Then there are also paradoxes in everyday life. I came across this list of several. We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers, wider freeways but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, buy more, but enjoy it less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences but less time. We have more college degrees but less sense, more knowledge but less judgment. We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life, but not life to years. We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We build more computers to hold more information that we print on more paper than every before, but we communicate less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, tall people and short character, steep profits but shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses but broken homes.
You get the idea.

The Christian life is a paradox to many people, but not to those who really live it. Consider the following paradoxes: they’ll help you to understand what being a Christian all is about:

"He that finds his life shall lose it, and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it." (Matthew 10:39)

"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back." (Luke 6:38)

"Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

"Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

5. OUR WEAKNESS IS OUR STRENGTH (2 Corinthians 12: 9,10).
"And he said unto me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities; for when I am weak, then I am strong."

6. WE RULE BY SERVING (Mark 10:42-45)
"You know that those who are supposed to rule over the nations lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all."

7. WE LIVE BY DYING (Galatians 2:20)
"I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
"What shall we then say to these things?" If the Christian life is a paradox, then the actions of individual Christians should make non-Christians wonder. The very fact that Christians do the opposite of what non-Christians would do in the same situation should challenge their whole approach to life!

I was invited to give a short message during a funeral service last week. Below is the message. I hope You will be enlightened too!

TEXT : John 11:1-11:31

It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting,
for death is the destiny of every person; the living should take this to heart.

3 reasons for this:

1. this is a time for us to celebrate the life that God gave to us. We’re sad but we also want to remember ones life.

2. It’s a time for us to say good-bye . As hard as it is, this service will help us begin the process of letting go.

3. It’s a time for us to take a look at our own lives. We are all going to die someday. It’s a great time to ask some tough questions. Questions like, “Am I ready to die?” and “Where will I go when my life is over?” When it comes right down to it, this service is more for us who are living than for the person who has died.

And so, we’re going to remember, we’re going to say good-bye, and we’re going to reflect on our own lives.

Some of you are searching for answers this afternoon. I want you to know that it’s OK to ask those questions. It’s natural to wonder why this had to happen.

THERE’S A TIME FOR EVERYTHING. You shouldn’t feel guilty for wondering if there was something that God could have done. God could have kept Patricia from dying. But, for some reason, He didn’t.

Ecclesiastes 3:2 reminds us that there is a Time to be born and a Time to die. While we don’t understand why Patricia died, we do know it was her time to die.

GOD IS WITH YOU IN YOUR SORROW AND HE FEELS IT. John 11:35 tells us what Jesus did - “he wept.”

WE MUST REFLECT ON OUR LIFE TODAY - Where Will You Go? I have a question for you today. Where will you go when it’s your time to die?

verses 25-26: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies. Do you believe this?”

Determine today to put your faith and trust in Jesus as the Savior and Leader of your life. This is real stuff, isn’t it?

James 4:14 says, “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

Proverbs 27:1 reminds us to not boast about tomorrow because we don’t know what a day will bring forth. Some people are always bragging about what they’re going to do and they never do anything. “One of these days I’m going to do this.” “I’ll tackle that later.” But, later may never come.

• Life is unpredictable. We don’t even know what will happen tonight, much less next week or next year. The truth is that no one can predict the future.

• Life is brief. Our lives are like a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. The Greek word here is the word atmos, from which we get the word “atmosphere,” which is that invisible layer of water vapor that encircles our planet. Our lives are like a mist in the grand scheme of things.

a. Psalm 90:12 to number our days. The truth of the matter is that all of us are just one heartbeat away from eternity.
b. 1 Samuel 20:3, David said, “Yet as surely as the Lord lives and as you live, there is only a step between me and death.”

Our lives are like a vapor – here one minute and gone the next. Don’t put off this decision. Decide today to give your life to Jesus.
