YOUTH SUNDAY

Youth Sunday! We just celebrated our Youth Sunday last July 26, 2009. The church service started with a joyful celebration of praise and worship led by the young people. It was such a grand display of the goodness of God. This year's theme is: Evangelism, Discipleship, Mission. We are determined to focus on these three important components in the church that tell us the central command of Jesus.
The young people then presented a Drama/mime/interpretative dance that really touched our hearts. It reminded us of the consequence of sin, the reason why Jesus came to this earth. It is also a way of reminding us to get out from the four corners of our church and go tell the Good News of salvation to others.

Wordless Wednesday # 1

Our youth of today

I will not forget the famous saying of Dr. Jose Rizal, "The youth is the hope of our Fatherland." As a pastor who overlooks the young people in our church, I can just at times shake my head in dismay seeing the downward sliding of morality of our youth today.
Two days ago, I ministered at a funeral service of the late father of our pastor in Maramag. While I was preaching, we heard a commotion outside and I briefly paused to know what it was. Upon looking outside the window, we saw a young man banging the closed door of a shop, shouting and cursing because of a fight with his girlfriend. While some of his companions, who seemed to be drunk cheered at him, seemingly enjoying what their buddy was doing. They just have been to a drinking spree from one of the Karaoke bars just near where we are having the funeral service! And what's surprising was, the bars were located a few feet from a University here in our place catering to its students and serving liqour and wine to minors!
It is both disturbing and alarming to know the slow destruction of the morality of our young people. It is really high time for the church, the family institution and the government to hold hand and join the fight against Immorality, alcoholism, drug addiction and other vices that is destroying our future generation. We must not allow ourselves to just leave our youth to wallow in the sin of carelessness and negligence on our part.
Yes they are the hope of our Fatherland, but let's fight the good fight of faith and save our young people from this moral degradation and malady.

Something wonderful in Asia: Philippine Underground river

To all my friends out there, here's one thing that might grab your interest. I will post the different wonderful places in Asia starting from my beloved country, the Philippines. I hope it will remind us of things and places we often overlook and not appreciate. God's wonderful creation. So, here it is...

Puerto Prinsesa is the place. The City of Puerto Princesa (Filipino: Lungsod ng Puerto Princesa), the capital of Palawan, is a first class city in the Philippines. It is famous for its crocodile farms, underground rivers and dive spots. It is also the largest city in the Philippines in terms of total land area.

Puerto Princesa City lies at the mid-section of the long strip of Palawan Island province. It is approximately 306 nautical miles from Manila, 206 nautical miles to Panay Island and about 250 nautical miles to Zamboanga. It is bounded on the north by the municipalities of San Vicente and Roxas and on the south by the municipality of Aborlan. To its west is the South China Sea while to the East lies the Sulu Sea.

Here in this paradise island, you can find the famous underground river, Puerto Princesa Subterranian RiverNational Park, a cave complex that features a two-kilometer navigable route underneath a limestone formation, has attracted hundreds of thousands of local and foreign visitors, particularly during the last two years after it was first nominated as one of the country's several entries in the global voting campaign to be part of the wonders of the world.
The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features a spectacular limestone karst landscape with its underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it flows directly into the sea, and the lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The area also represents a significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. The site contains a full mountain to the sea ecosystem and protects forests, which are among the most significant in Asia.

I as a Filipino would like to invite you and visit this paradise here in the Philippines. You will surely thank God for creating wonderful natural beauties that reflect peace, serenity and display His awesome power! God bless you all! Until our next trip!

Our much awaited dog is coming!

My son and my daughter once again reminded me to bring home the dog my friend promised to give us. It's a Japanese spitz. The moment they heard me telling them the news, they jump up and down with joy for they have been longing to own one. We all love pet dogs. We have attempted to raise 4 high bred puppies. but to our dismay, they just did not survive. They all died. We did our very best to take care of those precious puppies but to no avail. We once have a dalmatian pup, two Japanese spitz and one crossed-bred pup. We all missed them.

This time, my friend promised to give us an adult japanese spitz and not a pup. We are looking forward to bring him home and take care of him. My kids are so excited that they always ask me everytime we arrive if we have brought the dog. We always assured them that coming August, we will have one...and that would be one exciting, happy moment for all of us.

Have you been amazed by just seeing the sun sets in the afternoon? I have this feeling of euphoria everytime I watch the sun go down the horizon as I drive on our way home. For me, there's that feeling of hope and assurance knowing that there's a brand new day. It's also a time for me to reflect on the end of everything. There is that nudge in my head reminding me to appreciate the big things as well as the small ones. To appreciate relationship for it is the foundation of life. To love my wife and kids, my family, my loved ones, friends, church mates, and other people, for one day...they will all be gone. There's an end to everything. Sunsets reminded me these. But hope rises knowing that there always be a brand new day that awaits for those who trust their Living God! Thank You Lord for the sunsets!

We are all familiar with the saying " I'm looking for a greener pasture". But stop, look and read God's promise in His word. The righteous shall flourish, grow, thrive, prosper and do well! Looking for greener pasture? Trust God and live in His will then you will enjoy being in the greener pasture of life.

What you can do for your country

Some people did not care to watch or listen to the State of the Nation’s Address of President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo. Why? Because they are prejudice and ignorant . Let us give her a chance. It is her last SONA and last term anyway.

I thank God for our dear president. Amidst the political controversies, she was able to manage our country well . She is better than those who came before her . IN 2008 our country weathered a succession of global crises in fuel, in food, finance and economy but she never lost her focus but made our economic fundamentals intact.

Philippines is the only country that we have. You do not have the right to attack and condemn your country if you haven’t prayed for her. Let us be reminded with the following verse :

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 1 Chronicles 7:14

CRIS TOMLIN - MADE TO WORSHIP

Another Filipina died due to AH1N1

Heard from primetime news to today ( July 24,Friday) the death of another Filipina who was infected with Influenza A(H1N1) . Philippines has the highest number of the new flu virus cases in the Southeast Asia. In our city alone, almost all private and public schools from primary to university suspended classes for 10 days after finding some students positive of the Virus.

Praise God, my children just recovered from the seasonal flu. Aside from synthetic medicines, I let them take herbal alternatives like “tawa2x” and “Malunggay” juice. I doubled their dose of vitamin C also.
Please pray for God’s intervention over this pandemic.

Elementary Graduation - FPF # 1

I can vividly remember my elementary graduation.
The world was still uncomplicated - no digital camera, no cell phone, no heavy traffic, no pressure at all. I was awarded second honor. My reward? A yo-yo bought from divisoria. My graduation party? At the panciteria… Hahahahahaha

Birhtday of my Sweetie Pie

Today is the birthday of my beloved wife Grace. God indeed has His ways so amazing yet oftentimes mysterious. I met her way back 1988 when our church was just on its baby's stage. We just transfered from a campus fellowship to expand God's work for a bigger ministry not only to the students but to different people as well.

She told me that a friend invited her to attend our church service. She obliged to go since that was also the time when her father just died and God reminded her of her commitment to serve Him. It might sound awkward as my hubby told me, when they arrived on the place, the church's service already started and they heard peolple singing Praises and worship songs. They immediately went up the second floor of the building and joined the celebration.

While the singing went on, her friend tried to catch her attention and telling her to look at the keyboardist (that was me!) and see how beautiful are his eyes! Grace of course rebuked her friend and told her that it was not their intention to go to church and see somebody's eyes. They are there to worship God sincerely! But that was the first time she noticed me. (hehehehe...)

Well, the story is quite long but I have to tell you this, Grace continued to attend our church and grew matured in the Lord. At the same time, we became friends as she attended the choir and other church activities. I noticed her dedication and devotion to God. She was then promoted to lead the young people of church with such fervor and zeal. And I started to admire this young lady's boldness and sincerety in serving God.

As the years went by, my admiration grew to a desire to know more about her and we became close friends together with our brothers and sisters in the Lord. I really prayed to God to nurture this friendship and let it bloom beautifully with His care. One early cold morning, I honestly asked God if Grace would be my partner in life and I heard His still small voice telling me..."Yes.." Then our friendship blossomed into a relationship where God is the center of it.

It's still very, very fresh in my mind remembering the time when our Pastor gave the "OK" sign for me to court Grace and we went to eat together at a Chicken Ala Cart station with joy and excitement in our hearts. It was indeed one of the most joyful moments in my life sitting and eating beside her. And how can I forget the day I proposed to her! I arranged it to happen as a cozy and formal dinner date in a restaurant. When I gave her the ring and proposed (Will you marry me?) and she answered (Yes!), hahahaha... I was in cloud nine! I nearly jump for joy knowing that this beautiful lady that I've been praying is now going to be my fiancee! Glory to God! Three months afte that proposal, me and my darling got married in a simple yet joyful wedding ceremony attended by our loved ones, relatives, friends, church mates and neighbors, hehehe.

That was fourteen years ago and still today the joy of remembering those moments gave me more reasons to thank God for His goodness and faithfulness in my life. My wife has been my partner, my best friend, my lover and my inspiration. We have been through thick and thin, through the best and the worst, but I have seen in her heart the love for her God, her devotion to Him and her dedication to His calling. And I could say it proudly, I am the most blessed of all the husbands here on planet earth to have her as my wife. And our kids?, they just adore her. We fondly call her; Mamang, mamsie, mamshie, miming and we love her very, very much.

Mamsie dear, as you celebrate your birthday today, we let you know (IJ, Dale and I), that there has never been in our life together that we have not been thankful to God for your life. Everyday will always have a reason for us to thank our Almighty God for His "Grace", for my dearly beloved Grace which He gave us.

Just remember that I will always be proud of you as my wife and the mother to IJ and Dale. I cannot imagine myself being with somebody else beside you. You're the best thing that ever happened in my life. Mang, as I have said it again and again, I will never tire of saying it one more time on this special day of yours..."I LOVE YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER!"

HAPPY BIRHTDAY DEAR...ENJOY THIS DAY AND LET US ALWAYS THANK GOD FOR HIS GRACE IN OUR LIFE. WE WILL HAVE MORE YEARS TO SERVE GOD AND DO EXPLOITS IN HIS KINGDOM! GOD'S BLESSINGS, FAVOR AND LONG JOYFUL LIFE BE YOURS TODAY! TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORYAND HONOR!

At the verge of an active volcano

I was gasping in awe as I stood near an active volcano called “ Taman Wisata Alam” located in Bandung, West Java. This was during our mission trip in Indonesia. Below are my companions from Africa and United Kingdom.

Take out the trash

Spiritual renewal has been a popular topic in Christianity over the past several years. Most people may think along the lines of subjective experience when this topic comes. So renewal may be thought of as a personal matter, with heavy emphasis on positive thinking. The way to renew is said to be throught the ears and the use of music and arts. Group retreats and personal time alone with God are encouraged as helpful ways to find renewal.

This youth month of our church, we scheduled a one day retreat for all the young people. A day of soaking in the presence of God through Praise and Worship and Bible studies. As Josiah removed abominations from the land, so we too must “take out the trash” in our lives in order to renew our walk with God. How do you do this in your own life?

JOHN MAXWELL : Million Leaders Mandate

I received last week a mailed invitation from EQUIP Philippines for a 2-day Million Leaders Mandate” trainers training here in our city. It is sponsored by the US-based ministry EQUIP . It is the vision of an American leadership specialist John Maxwell, the founder of EQUIP, which gears at setting up one million new Christian leaders with basic leadership skills across the world by 2010 so that they can help change their countries in a fundamental way.

The goal is currently being fulfilled step by step under the concrete development plan laid down by Maxwell. From 2003 to 2008, the program has been introduced in Asia , Middle East, Europe and AfricaWorkshop topics include Cultivating people skills, Strategic planning, Fostering effective teamwork as well as Building successful partnerships.

The training will be held on 3 major cities in the Philippines – Manila, Cebu City and here in Cagayan de Oro City ( July 22- 23). This will be the 3rd volume of the 2nd Workbook. I have already completed 6 volumes of the first Notebook. Praise God!

SUNSAY SERMON : Lesson from Joseph

After gritting one’s teeth through a movie or a novel where the leading character suffers injustice, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing the turning point arrice. That is the moment when the hero gets the upper hand. It’s all a person can do, whether in a crowded theater or at home.

But it will be easy to learn the wrong lesson from the story of Joseph. That wrong lesson is something like. “ If you are faithful to God for long enough, he will vindicate you before your earthly enemies in this life. The accounts of godly martyrs with the pages of the Bible say otherwise ( Examples : Jeremiah 26:20-23 and Acts 7:54-60_

The correct bigger picture , rather is that God is in control. He is working out his plan. This can be difficult to believe when life seems to be out of control. Yet the God who guided Joseph’s destiny is the one who is guiding ours.

MY FAVE SONG

I just love to sing this song to my loveydove. I know and I believe that when God created her, He must have been thinking about me. I LOVE YOU MAMSY ALWAYS AND FOREVER!

And I love you so

The people ask me how
How I've lived 'til now
I tell them I don't know

I guess they understand
How lonely life has been
But life began again
The day you took my hand

And yes I know, how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me
And the night won't set me free
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me

And you love me too
Your thoughts are just for me
You set my spirit free
I'm happy that you do

The book of life is brief
And once a page is read
All but life is dead
That is my belief

And yes I know, how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me
And the night won't set me free
But I don't let the evening get me down
Now that you're around me

Additional things you do not know about me

Dear friends…this is another tell tale of my simple life which you do not know.

1. When I was on my 3rd grade in Elementary, my dad bought me a plastic toy gun. I just love that toy since I was the only one among my friends who had it. They just use banana stalks to design a toy gun for themselves. Proud is the word you could call me at that time. One day, as I was playing along the street, I ran back to our house to drink water when I suddenly remembered my beloved toy gun. I forgot it in the middle of the road! I hurriedly ran back to where I was playing and saw a school bus coming. My toy gun! That’s the first thing I thought seeing that the bus would hit it. I ran towards my toy and dove for it just in time for the bus to pass by. I literally went under the bus!

2. I had to be injected 21 times for anti-rabies vaccine. I was bitten by a puppy and two days after, the puppy died!

3. I use my left hand for writing only while I use my right hand for other things I do. There is a name they call it when a person is both left-handed and right-handed…knew it?

Matthew 6:33

God's word is simply amazing. His principles are our guide to a joyful, fruitful and victorious Christian life. His promises are true! None of it ever failed to be accomplished. What we need is a humble and teachable heart to follow His plan and God will surely show how wonderful it is to live inside His will enjoying His blessings and favor! God bless you all!

3 Things you did not know about me

I was food poisoned when I was in High school. I was literally dead for about a minute or two. I saw my self separate from my body . I remembered praying to God and saying these words, "Lord if it's my time, then I am ready. But if it's not, then use me in anyway You can." and that's when I came back to life .

I am an Electrical Engineer by profession but worked full-time as a Pastor for Youth and Moral Development . My mom has high hopes for me to be successful in my profession, she was deeply discouraged when I took a different path . Now, she understood God’s calling in my life seeing me fulfilled and joyful in my ministry.

I am happily married to the first and only love of my life. We have two lovely kids, Isaiah John 13 yrs. old and Dalefaith Grace 9 yrs old.

MJ's very touching speech

As I was browsing the web reminiscing the life of Michael Jackson , I stumbled this article which I think worth publishing . His speech at Oxford University in March 2001 touched me so much. Please read ....

All of us are products of our childhood. But I am the product of a lack of a childhood, an absence of that precious and wondrous age when we frolic playfully without a care in the world, basking in the adoration of parents and relatives, where our biggest concern is studying for that big spelling test come Monday morning.

Those of you who are familiar with the Jackson Five know that I began performing at the tender age of five and that ever since then, I haven’t stopped dancing or singing.

But while performing and making music undoubtedly remain as some of my greatest joys, when I was young I wanted more than anything else to be a typical little boy.

I wanted to build tree houses, have water balloon fights, and play hide and seek with my friends.

But fate had it otherwise and all I could do was envy the laughter and playtime that seemed to be going on all around me.

There was no respite from my professional life.

But on Sundays I would go Pioneering, the term used for the missionary work that Jehovah’s Witnesses do.

And it was then that I was able to see the magic of other people’s childhood.

Since I was already a celebrity, I would have to don a disguise of fat suit, wig, beard and glasses and we would spend the day in the suburbs of Southern California, going door-to-door or making the rounds of shopping malls, distributing our Watchtower magazine.

I loved to set foot in all those regular suburban houses and catch sight of the shag rugs and La-Z-Boy armchairs with kids playing Monopoly and grandmas baby-sitting and all those wonderful, ordinary and starry scenes of everyday life.

Many, I know, would argue that these things seem like no big deal. But to me they were mesmerising.

…………Love, ladies and gentlemen, is the human family’s most precious legacy, its richest bequest, its golden inheritance.

And it is a treasure that is handed down from one generation to another.

Previous ages may not have had the wealth we enjoy.

Their houses may have lacked electricity, and they squeezed their many kids into small homes without central heating.

But those homes had no darkness, nor were they cold.
They were lit bright with the glow of love and they were warmed snugly by the very heat of the human heart.

Parents, undistracted by the lust for luxury and status, accorded their children primacy in their lives.

He went on to say… I would therefore like to propose tonight that we install in every home a Children’s Universal Bill of Rights, the tenets of which are:

1. The right to be loved without having to earn it

2. The right to be protected, without having to deserve it

3. The right to feel valuable, even if you came into the world with nothing

4. The right to be listened to without having to be interesting

5. The right to be read a bedtime story, without having to compete with the evening news

6. The right to an education without having to dodge bullets at schools

7. The right to be thought of as adorable - (even if you have a face that only a mother could love).

COCONUT ADVENTURE

When we had our grocery last week, I purposely bought a coconut for my kids to see how to extract milk from it. My wife preferred the processed powder mix but I told her to let the kids see the primitive way of getting “gata”.

The kids were so excited to see it done. They woke up early and got the “kalagura” and the “bolo”. Below are the pictures of our coconut adventure

The culmination of our bonding time is the sumptuous “ginataang Monggo Beans" - my childhood favorite meal.

OVERNIGHT RETREAT

Tonight , we will be having our church “ youth overnight retreat” as part of the Youth Month this July. I tagged along my 13 yr. old son ,he’s hesitant to go since this is his first time to be with the young people (He just leveled up from kids Sunday school to the youth ministry).

As I am writing this blog, the rain poured so heavy . I pray this will not hinder the young people to come to this refreshing gathering. God will surely fill us with revelation tonight.

SUNDAY PREACHER

I thank God for the blessing of giving me the opportunity to preach on our Sunday Worship service. It is such a humbling experience standing before the congregation knowing that it is GOD and not anybody else causes me to be there on the pulpit sharing His word to His wonderful people.

During our Midweek prayer fellowship, this phrase just came to my mind “THE KING OF POP AND THE KING OF KINGS!” I laughed at the idea but then God reminded me to strike a chord to everyone that in spite of the worldwide popularity of Michael Jackson (The king of pop), in spite of the many devotions people offered him, we all must not forget that our God, our Savior, the King of king and Lord of lords must be the only one to be given our whole hearted devotion and worship.

MY PREACHING # 3

BORED WITH PRAYER MEETING
Matthew 18:18-20

GOD CALLS US TO PRAY TOGETHER.
We will find in our study of Scripture, particularly Matthew 18:18-20, three reasons that demonstrate why we should pray together.

OUR STUDY:

I. The first reason why we should pray together is HOSTILITY (18). state of deep-seated ill-will; aggression: violent action that is hostile and usually unprovoked.
Jesus says…“Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

This is a warfare ( II Corinthians 10:3-4)!
This is what Paul describes…”For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”
We are to pray together because the fight is so great, and it is not to be fought alone.
We are to pray together because we have been given power to make a difference for the kingdom!

II. The second reason why we should pray together is HARMONY (19). “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”

1. We exist in community.

We saw that the Lord’s Prayer reinforced this principle of community when Jesus prayed, “Our Father” and “Give us this day our daily bread.” Our prayers are to reflect that we do not live in isolation. God has designed us to exist among others and not on our own. But it is more than that. He expects the community to work well together.

2. Prayer is meant to be a concert.

The word translated “agree” in this passage is interesting. It means “sound together” or “harmony.” In other words, our prayers are to be a symphony, like musicians that play together. So when you hear us speaking about having a “concert of prayer,” it is not about music, but about possessing a kindred spirit when it comes to our worship, confession and petition. We sound good together. It is pleasing to God’s ears.

III. The third reason why we should pray together is HUMILITY (20).

Jesus said…“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

1. Prayer is approaching God, coming on His merits, not our own.

When we come to God, who we are is not the issue. Who Jesus is, is the issue. We must humbly accept this. We like to bring attention to our faithfulness. We like to bring attention to how knowledgeable we are.

But we cannot appeal to how good we have been or how much faith we have. We cannot appeal to the history of our church. We come in His name, not our own. We do not come asking for what we want, but for what He wants. When it is on our hearts to desire what will bring God glory, we are praying in His name. And in turn, we discover that He is the “with-us” God.

2. Prayer is discovering and recognizing God’s Presence.

When we gather to pray, (and we only need two), we discover that we are not alone.
Jesus does not say “I will be there.” He says, “I am there.” He is there because He is in every one of us.

3. Prayer is discovering and living out the Lord’s purposes.

APPLICATION:

Let me admit that I have been bored with prayer meeting. It is not that I am bored with prayer, although sometimes I think we could use some creativity. What it really is, I believe, is a lack of excitement that is rooted in disbelief. We don’t believe the difference that God can make when we pray together. Prayer meetings often fail because Jesus is not actively in charge.

When we gather for prayer as a church, let’s let Jesus take charge!
“Our unity is the instrument in God’s hands that awakens people in the kingdom of death and darkness and moves them into the kingdom of life and light.” He will use us to make this kind of difference. When the early church exploded with growth, it began with a gathering of prayer.

DADDY MOMENTS

DADDY MOMENTS - ENCOUNTER WITH ANIMALS

Looks scary but my son overcomed his fear by my
encouragement . I told him "be a man enough to touch the python".

Me with the 18 ft python. It's a fulfillment to be inside
the cage with this deadly animal. The python
just finished his meal of 20kgs of meat.
So there's nothing to worry

LOW POTASSIUM

My mother was rushed to the hospital 2 days ago due to deficiency of POTASSIUM. She taught she had a mild stroke because she had a muscle spasms in her legs and twitches in her face. I was in our Intercessory Prayer meeting when my wife called but my cellphone was left in the car. It was only after the prayer that I knew. I accelerated my car’s kph to 100 to get to the hospital as early as possible.

There, lying on the emergency room was my mom.. very pale and weak. I tried to be strong for her but deep inside I am a little bit worried. She’s already 73 years old and has been in-and-out the hospital . I prayed for her and was greatly encouraged seeing her agreeing in faith with my prayer.

As of now she’s still in the hospital already stable and recovering. I am yet on the process of researching the cause and effect of having a Low Potassium in our body. Please help me in prayers.
