Shoot Me : Parasailing

It’s the day after Judgment day for all who desired to run for public office here in our place. The Barangay poll yesterday was generally peaceful in our locality where we casted our votes. We went to the polling center in the afternoon upon learning that the ballot boxes arrived two hours late than expected. By wife’s brother ran for a barangay post and lost the race gracefully accepting his defeat. We knew from friends that vote buying and bribes were very much alive for those politicians who have the gold during this election. Even our past national and local elections always have this tainted image of corruption.

It’s quite frustrating and many times disheartening the battle against corruption in our beloved motherland. It has become a culture a hard habit to break. But I will not succumb myself to hopelessness and do nothing. Instead, I will be active in every endeavour to lift up a positive image of our country in my own little way. Yes, I firmly believe we could still see the dawning of brand new day for our beloved Philippines.

Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

This is the question one of the young people asked me. The celebration of Halloween has no such Christian spiritual features. True, this holiday falls on October 31st, which is the eve of All Saints Day, some Christian churches celebrated this time through worship. But the modern celebration of Halloween is not generally thought of as a Christian time of worship.

Some Halloween activities could be considered anti-Christian, and would, therefore, be avoided. For most children, however, there is no religious significance involved in either the day itself or in such elements as pumpkins or costumes. . But when children go trick-or-treating or visit "haunted houses", they are not thinking about participating in any religious festivities at all. They are just trying to "have fun" as they would at a movie or amusement park. So go ahead.let your children have fun...But it would be appropriate for Christians to consider carefully their activities on this holiday.

Watery Wednesday

Thank God super typhoon " Juan"  ( International name Megi) left the country with no heavy damaged on infrastructure and agriculture.  Thanks to the effort of the  Government for warning the people along the coastal area to evacuate. We can not afford another calamity brought by last year's Storm "Ondoy".

Big Money Awaits Ginger Growers

GINGER is a crop that grows best in the Philippines. In fact, it is so versatile that it can be grown almost any part of the country. This is what I’ve learned from a friend who encouraged me to use our land in Bukidnon to grow Ginger crop. He told me that on regular season, a farmer will have a gross income of P300,000 (at P10 per kilogram with 30 tons yield from one hectare). During off-season, the gross income is higher by P100,000 as the price of ginger increases to P20 per kilogram. Wow! Big money awaits the entrepreneur who goes into production of good quality ginger.

I have to consult first the Department of Agriculture for my feasibility study and the Department of Trade and Industry for it’s possible market. Our land in Bukidnon has been idle for the past 10 years. I guess, this is the time now to venture into farming.

We have observed that every year our kids have scrap booking projects at school. So my wife suggested to re-invent our kid’s large photo albums into scrapbooks to save money by reprinting old pictures and get rid of those aged and torn ones. We love to spend time together making each scrap booking project. It’s a great way to remember the old times, spend quality time and bond together as a family. How about trying it? There are lots of sites online which offers photo albums and scrap booking designs and lay-out.

Christmas spells JESUS LOVES YOU!

“People making lists, buing special gifts...It’s the time of year when good friends are here...” those words from a very popular Christmas song by Michael Jackson always bring nostalgia to me whenever I hear it. Yes, Christmas is around the corner. Here in our place, whenever we arrive on the calendar months that ends with “ber”, you can already hear Christmas songs and jingles played in radio stations, department stores, and TV ads. The “ber” months here as we commonly called it, signifies the start of the Christmas season. And people here are literally making lists and buying special gifts as early as the month of October! LOL! My mother, my dear mom, always see to it that she can buy gifts for all her friends as early as this month. Last week, we accompanied her in buying gifts for her co-workers. She wants to avoid the Christmas rush and last minutes buys that usually happens to many.

As for our family, we have already started to make a list and little by little scouted for items or gifts to buy for our love ones, relatives, “inaanaks”, and friends too. For those living far away, we would prefer to give them Holiday Cards with thoughts of love and of course a picture of baby Jesus to remind our friends the real meaning of Christmas. Yes gifts can add joy and excitement but there’s no greater meaning and significanc of Christmas than the Love of God to humankind and because of this, He gave His Only begotten Son. Christmas spells – J-E-S-U-S L-O-V-E-S Y-O-U!

The Power of Small Things

There’s power even in small things. That’s what my wife wrote about business cards. I’m quite amused by that statement but it’s true! Having been working with a Band for 23 years have taught me many lessons on formal business opportunities, especially now that our group would be booked to play in wedding ceremonies, receptions, special occasions and other intimate gatherings here in our place.

This is the first time I’ve heard about entertainment business cards and I believe this is one thing we need to widen our scope of friends and acquaintances for referrals to future business deals with them. Yes, business cards can do many things not mentioning the opportunities to meet new friends and of course earn from business appointments.
