Kagay-an Evangelical Disaster Response , Network

Our church was designated as the Command Center for Kagay-an Evangelicals

Relief Headquarter

It has been 8 days since the killer flash flood hit our city but until now we still do not have water and electric power. Our house haven’t been totally cleaned, it’s still muddy . The whole city looked gloomy, debris everywhere but it’s heartening to know that relief goods are sufficient to address the needs of the evacuees . Our church has been designated as the Evangelical Relief headquarters of Operation Blessings, Philippine Relief and Disaster Services and other Non-government organization. Basic needs such as foods, medicine, mats and blankets were already given to victims. Speaking of mats, I remember our  yoga mats which was washed –out by the flood. I  bought  them  a week before the tragedy. Now, it's gone....

Express yourself with Funny Shirts

Originally worn as undershirts, t-shirts have come a long way since their birth in the late 19th century. They’ve evolved greatly, now used as a means of expressing oneself. Current market trends have proven tees to be the most widely used despite the presence of avant-garde, slick, chic pieces. This is  because of comfort they bring to those who don them and the affordability of the items. They come in variety, a miscellany of prints and a wild contrast of colors. Example of these are funny t shirts which are now quite popular—a bunch of online entrepreneurs live off by selling their funny “designer” tees. A lot of people nowadays, especially teens, use t-shirts to express their wit, originality and cluster. Even organizations express their group  advocacy through t-shirts. This made me think: they certainly make for a good Christmas present.

For now, we are busy at our church.  It's been used by some religious and Non-governmental organization as relief Center. Fr three days now, we've been roaming around the affected areas giving blankets and Mats through Operation Blessing and CBN Asia .

Men and Women

Why it is that during weddings, the attention of the crowd are focused on the bride? Often times the the groom is demoted as the background! People tend to put less emphasis on what he will wears while we scrutinized the design, textile and even the price of the bride's gown. Maybe because we men are just simple beings. Even when selecting for wedding rings for men, we opt for the simpler design. We are straightforward and uncomplicated.. while women can flaunt in every details of their being. We are rational while they are emotional. We are created to compliment each other.

BM : Nice Footworks by Marquez!

This was during the fight between  the controversial boxing fight of Pacquiao and Marquez.

He's very optimistic to hit the gold!

Gold…gold…gold…those were the words I heard from a friend who’s into gold mining. He’s still new with this kind of business but he’s very optimistic that someday their group would hit the jackpot. The mining site is quite far from where we live but our friend would travel 7 hours just to visit the site. He said that their business partners have investors lining up to buy gold at Golden Eagle and it would be a no time that they will reap the fruit of their labor. We are hoping that our friend will have success in this new found business of his. Good luck Bro!

The imposing performance graduates with my highlight.

Youth Center

We will have to prepare an office of the Youth in our church. We have already cleaned a room and we are all excited to set our office tables, chairs, bookshelves and pictures on the wall. One member of the youth core group jokingly suggested that we would buy a ps3 hard drive in our office! That would be a different scenario then. Our office will be converted to a gaming station if that’s the case. But definitely we are going to have a Wireless Broadband set up so we could have an internet access and use it for researches and to contact our friends abroad. I can not wait for the Youth Center to be finished!

Birthday Gift for our daughter

Chocolates! Our daughter's favorite ! She will be turning 12 next year on April 14 and we are already contemplating to have a kid’s party for her, her classmates, church friends and our neighbor’s children. Hhhhmmmm...That would surely be a bit expensive but we agreed it would be worth the sacrifice and the joy our daughter would feel. It’s her special day and we want her to feel as special as she can be. And what would be one of our gifts? Of course imported premium chocolates! I’ve seen this gift for daughter idea and I admired it. Just think of two full frozen gourmet dipped fancy berries set on her birthday table. That would blow our daughter away with excitement and joy!

To be a Technology Lawyer someday

My son who’s in senior years in High School wanted to be a lawyer just like his grandfather. No one in the family followed his grand Pa’s footstep, so he is motivated to be the first of the grand children to take-up law. He’s an academic scholars in school and consistently among the top 10 in the class.By God’s help , I know he can endure all the challenges and struggles in college. He can be a good labor or technology lawyer someday. I hope this desire will remain in his heart until graduation. God bless you Son!

Thankful Thursday: SMILE

Oftentimes, God's greatest miracles are small ones. We may overlook it but it sure lightens up our day. I am talking about the smile on the faces of my loved ones. Every time I see my wife and kids smile and laugh, it really feels like heaven here on earth.

I should be really thankful to God for this. The joy He puts in our heart everyday through thick and thin, overshadows the uncertainties in life. Thank You Lord for the smile and laughter you gave us. We love you very much.

Grand Daddy

I missed the days when our kids were still small and we would placed them in a stroller. I would love to do it again given the chance to bring back the time. Now that were both in our 40’s ( me and my wife) we are looking forward to pushing a stroller just like the uppababy vista 2012 model for our grand children someday. Hmmm…. I would be one proud grand daddy. Can you relate to this?

Suffering Depression ?

Depression or prolonged sadness is quite common in high developed countries. This illness may seem so simple to treat but the truth is , it takes more than a little cheering up to actually cure depression.
In the U.S. therapist prescribed medications such as the famous zoloft. It's proven to effective but it has also side effect like  zoloft birth defects .

I have counseled lots of young people suffering from depression , I know it's not easy.It takes a lot of patience , understanding  and prayers in dealing with people suffering from depression.

Tortured Inside A Beauty Salon

I fetch my wife and daughter yesterday from the beauty salon. It's kind of weird waiting at the receiving area surrounded by women and gay beauticians. Their topics are kind of taboo to me. Their were lots of giggling and hush-hush. I heard someone sharing her all natural secret on how to grow eyelashes and another one her frustration on her quest to losing weight. My wife kept on smiling and winking while my daughter was encouraging me to have a foot massage. The 30-minutes was a torture. How I wish I was able to bring my MP3,I could have a world of own yesterday.

Pacquiao and Marquez Official Final Punchstats

Who says Manny doesn't not deserved the be;t?

Blue Monday : SM

At SM Davao City. See my hubby with my kids playing at the parking lot?
This was during our summer vacation in the city.

Don't take medicine longer than what was prescribed!

I know death is inevitable but in the death of my friend's father it could have been avoided . His father's medicine for diabetes which should be taken no more than 3 months was taken for more than a year. This resulted to the collapse of his liver... and eventually his death.  Some friends suggested to take legal action against the doctor but the family is not agreeable to file an actos lawsuit  considering some failure on their part.

The incident reminded me with the Bible  verse  in Hosea 4:6 " Because of lack of Knowledge, people perish". It also reminded me to  keep doctor's prescription (I have the tendency to throw away the paper  after buying the medicine) and strictly follow what's written on the RX.

Cosmetics with gold dust?

It’s my first time to hear about this but this must be one interesting product. I’m talking about oro gold cosmetics . A mixed part of a 24K gold dust in my wife’s night cream, facial cleanser and moisturizer cream? I mean, WOW! Unbelievable! This must be something special! For sure she will be surprised… no, no, that’s an understatement…she will be amazed and be blown away by the idea of having a line of cosmetics with gold in it. But I believe that would be worth my money if I’ll buy one for her. Hhmmmm…I’ll start saving for this on her birthday.

Famous Quotations

I used the following famous quotations during my lecture for the Youth Camp

Che Guevarra: In a famous speech in 1961, Che Guevara denounced the very “spirit of rebellion” as “reprehensible.” “Youth must refrain from ungrateful questioning of governmental mandates” commanded Guevara. “Instead they must dedicate themselves to study, work and military service.”
And woe to those youths “who stayed up late at night and thus reported to work (government forced-labor) tardily.” Youth, wrote Guevara, “should learn to think and act as a mass.” Those who “chose their own path” (as in growing long hair and listening to Yankee-Imperialist Rock & Roll) were denounced as worthless “lumpen” and “delinquents.” In his famous speech Che Guevara even vowed, “to make individualism disappear from Cuba! It is criminal to think of individuals!” he raved.
Oscar Wilde “Youth is wasted on the young.”
Sarah Dessen “The choices you make now, the people you surround yourself with, they all have the potential to affect your life, even who you are, forever.”

Storm Shelters

The recent devastation brought by two typhoons that hit our country left thousands of people homeless and billions of pesos of agricultural and industrial infrastracture destroyed. The plight of thousands of our fellow countrymen is disheartening. Seein it on T.V. is quite different. I can just feel the suffering of those stranded in storm shelters with little food and water supply.

Our country experiences up to 26 tropical storms every year and both the media and the public are working together to minimize the destruction of properties and lives lost. Television, radio and newspapers give us up –to-date data and other information whenever a storm signal or a low pressure area is brewing and is about to enter our country. It’s good to be always ready when calamaties strike.

Proper Budgeting is the Key towards More Savings

A number of households are now struggling with debt and other financial issues. Yes it is easier to blame the recent state of the economy but at one point people have to realize that part of the problem is also caused by poor budgeting and over spending. So how important is it to have an effective monthly budget? For starters it could provide you with more savings that you can use in order to settle other financial matters.

With budgeting comes a concrete financial structure that you and your family could follow. This is a good way to control spending and avoid buying items that are not important in needed. Let’s face it, its easy to lose focus while on the grocery store as you might want to buy the things you seen on the shelves especially if they are on sale. But carrying a list with you of the things that you need to purchase will keep you stay in focus.

People should realize that overspending is one of the main reasons why one could wind up on a huge debt. Keep in mind a very simple rule: do not spend money that you don’t have. Budgeting could help you eliminate the unnecessary expenses and at the same time start having some extra money that you could keep for the rainy days.

Our Two-storey House

We are looking forward to building our new house. It will be a two-storey house with four bedrooms and three baths. Is it possible to have a swimming pool? I asked this question to my wife who just smiled back to me. Well, nothing’s impossible under the sun. It’s not bad after all to dream dreams. Yes, a swimming pool with a pool heat pump for that relaxing time with the family and friends. What more could I asked for? That is one of my dreams as I am looking forward to our new home. It would be a great retirement place someday!

I attended an Eightieth Birthday Celebration in one of the biggest hotel in the city. Me and my wife and the rest of the visitors were greatly touched with the program. The Children and Grand Children surprised the celebrator with songs, dances and video presentation. The tribute was really heart-warning that my wife was able to cry during the messages of from the children and grand children.

We were all surprised when the birthday gift arrived. It was an ATV wrapped with a big...big ribbon. "Tatang" as we fondly called the celebrator, jumped from his chair and went out the ballroom with the ATV! The BIG TOY of course was completed with ATV Accessories and the need rzr parts.

Choosing between Canon or Nikon for DSLR

Which is more durable Canon or nikon camera batteries ? I have posted in my travel blog my desire to have a DSLR Camera this coming December. I am confused which of the leading DSLR Camera brand is the best. I browsed the internet but both of them claimed to be the first in the industry, so I decided to let buy the first store outlet to extend the lowest promo rates this Christmas. I am planning to buy the D600 of Canon but a friend suggested to get the Nikon equivalent for it.  I have not decided it. The  brand who can make a good offer will prevail. What do you think? Is this a good idea?

What are your sports?

I love playing  basketball, volleyball , baseball and table tennis. I am into mountain biking too! I do my rounds three times a week with some members of the biking association here in our city. My ultimate dream sport is America’s favorite pastime – Football. I really wondered, what's up with Americans and their football . Although they have other sports like baseball, hockey and basketball.. most American love football the most. Even Fantasy football games on line became a craze in the U.S. Fantasy  football is a game that uses the statistics of professional football players for personal, fantasy teams. In my 2 years of blogging, I have stumbled upon hundreds of web sites, dedicated to fantasy footballs. There are even radio and TV shows, dedicated to discussion of fantasy football and the NFL players. How I wish football will gain the same popularity here in our country. I tried playing football ( also known as soccer here in our country) during my high school years but time and place did not allow my love for the game to flourish.

Heart Failure

My Father was hospitalized because of a Heart Failure. Being the only boy and so closed when him , I was deeply devastated . He stayed at the Heart Center for almost 3 months and it was hard for the family financially and emotionally. My mom who's a School Principal took an indefinite leave of absence from work just to personally take care of him. The mitral valve repair extended his life .. thanks to the advance technology. All our real estate properties were sold to defray cost of his hospitalization.. but it's worth all of it.

I was reminded to post    this  since a friend informed me on his father's heart ailment. I sympathize with him.  Praying for his healing bro!

Accident Happens Quickly

My friend who’s a college student took a public ride and met an accident while the jeep he’s riding approached a crossroad. Another transport car lost its brakes and bumped on them. The incident happened quickly. One passenger was pinned on the side of the jeep but luckily survived with only a broken arm. Thank God my friend and the other passengers were all safe. The owner of the transport even refused to pay the damages. When my mom went to the States with my sister, their group met a minor accident but was treated well. They were even given compensation because they have accident lawyers in that case. Just like the Arizona car accident lawyers, how I wish we also have that here in our place. My friend and the other passengers would  have been  attended properly and the owner of that car would then be liable to pay all the damages for the victims of that accident. Yes! Accidents happen quickly  so we must be ready to have a law firm who can help us   in determining our rights  and remedies just like what the  Arizona auto accident lawyers does.

WFW : In the Beginning

Longest Christmas Celebration

The “BER” months here in the Philippines is quite an exciting time for all of us. Filipinos are known to have the longest Christmas celebration. You can hear Christmas carols as early as the first day of September. And these months too will also be part of our cold, rainy season. You can expect people wearing warmers and jackets during nighttime. My friend in New York misses these times here. There in New York during winter time, you can expect to see people wearing heated winter jackets, gloves and even heated electric blanket. My friend told me that they even have a -20 degree Fahrenheit below freezing point. Wow, that’s really, really cold!

Why are nurses in Public Hospital still wears white?

Two weeks ago, I had a chance to assist my brother-in-law with the processing of his wife hospitalization documents in one of the public hospital here in our city. I went to and fro each of the nurse station, billing station and the health insurance department. I observed that  their nurses do not wear medical scrubs as those nurses working in a private hospital. They still wear the conventional white uniform from head to toe while those in the private hospital  wear  their trendy and chic colorful nursing scrubs. I guess the Department of Health made an ordinance requiring all nurses to wear the white professional-looking uniforms to help create a public image of nurses as educated professionals deserving respect. Indeed it is important that patients should be able to identify their nurses, so they know  who  are the person  responsible for their care. If nurses in the public hospital will parade in scrubs, they will be able to ask questions of an employee they assumed to be a nurse, but who turned out to be a representative of housekeeping or dietary…Lol!

God Struck : Connect, Renew, Survive

Coming October 28 – 30 will be a big event to al the young people in the church and to all the campus caregroups. The young ladies with their Femmes for Jesus group ( F4J) and the young men with their Band of Brothers ( Bob) will hold a three-day youth camp entitles “ God’s Struck : Connect, Renew and Survive. We are now on our third phase in planning for that big day. Tarpaulin banners designs are ready , youth  brochure printing is on the way for our camp promotion. So that they may discover their potential and use it properly to be more productive in their lives.

Reality bites! Our young people today are affected with moral degradation- pre-marital sex, alcoholism, pornography, rebellion and vices are some societal desease that affects our young people today. By being in the forefront of change , our youth commits their time, talents and resources to influence these young people to love God, their families their studies and their future. May they not be tired in pursuing this noble act for in preserving our generation from moral decay. Congratulations BHCCCI youth for this initiative. Your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Fraternities In Comparison

I was nearly lured by my classmates to attend an initiation and be a member of a fraternity in our campus. I was on my junior high when this happened. It was difficult for me since I was warned by my parents not to be involved in any fraternity group without their consent. I have a positive idea about “brotherhood” having known several parents of my friends who are members of a fraternity group. But that was different. The time my classmates recruited me to join their group, there was an on-going conflict between them and another fraternity group because of membership issues.

I’m glad that I refused to join them that time because several of the members of their group were arrested due troubles with another fraternity faction. I’ve got to admit that I’m scared at that time since I don’t want my studies to be affected. But I also heard of some good news about the benefits of being in a “brotherhood” since it can help you in your studies and even your work in the future.

The foreign blood in me..

Our forefathers are not really Filipinos. They were the boat people from Indonesia who migrated to the Philippines in early part of 1900.Six years ago, face book was not yet born so looking for your long lost relatives is very difficult. I decided to make a family tree through a website . It was because of this desire that I was introduced to the free platform of blogger. It’s very difficult at first but when I added some relatives to act as my co-administrator, the website was completed. It was fulfilling to see the pictures and profiles of the members of the clan in one website. Although social networking is already here.. we still prefer to chatting and posting pictures in our website.

College Dropout Rates

According to a study of our education trend here in the Philippines, there are many reasons why many college students drop out of college. One of these is the financial incapacity of parents to sustain the education of their children. Poverty looms largely in many provinces here in our place where there is an ongoing conflicts between tribal groups which is a threat to our peace and order. In Mindanao alone where I was born, a few provinces belonged to the poorest of poor in our country. It is here where the number of Out-of-school youths is largely concentrated. Even in the city where I’m living, still a large group of college students won’t make it to graduation due to the high cost of education.
Sad as it may, this problem is not only prevalent here in our country. The United States, a Super power nation is not exempted with this global problem. Economic pressure, debts, threats to the peace and order, moral degradation, college drop outs, spiritual decline and many more…we all face these dilemmas in our society today. But I’m glad that in spite of the many problems our country, we Filipinos are well known as survivors and we always stand to where we have fallen. We just don’t give up easily.
