Big results come from small beginnings

Matthew 13:31-32

He told them another parable; “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.

Jesus is a wonderful story-teller. He used parables to help us visualize biblical concepts. In this scripture He reminds us that a mustard seed is about as small a start as it gets. Yet, after it grows it not only becomes one of the biggest garden plants; it actually becomes a tree. What was once only a small seed becomes a full-grown tree, fulfilling its purpose in life.

God sees all the little things

Luke 12: 2-3 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.

Depending on what we are  doing and saying  in our private life, Luke 12:2-3 scripture is either very encouraging to us or its convicting. Our behavior in privacy, behind closed doors will eventually come out in our public life. God loves us. He is not waiting for a certain time to uncover and embarrass us. This scripture is revealing a biblical truth to us. There are no secrets with God. We can’t live two separate lives forever… at some point the two worlds collide. The little things in our private life that may seem insignificant to us, matter to God.

Flooring America

House really depreciates. The older it gets, the more repair and maintenance it  will have. Just like our house, we can not stop getting over with its remodelling . Early this year, we replaced some portion of the roof, last May, we upgraded our kitchen… then today we are considering to completely remove and then replace the aged flooring of our house. We planning to salvage our hardwood flooring by replaced the most heavily damaged sections of the house. We do not have the budget to replace them all knowing that Hardwood nowadays are expensive.

If only the http://www.tricountyflooringamerica.com  is reachable in our place, I would surely get their services. I browsed through there pages and found their floor guide very helpful . They offer free catalogue and measurement with floor finish affordable to the pocket. What else? They offer $100 discount for purchases. Planning to take your floor finish to the next level? Man Made Forest at Bohol Island

Scenic Sunday

Tracing my Indonesian roots

I have this in my mind for quite a number of years already. My dad’s ancestral line is not clear to me nor my two sisters and my mom too. My dad’s home place is far from where we’re residing now and honestly, we have not yet been there and I’m 44 years old now. We’ve met two of my father’s siblings and they cannot completely describe to us their family tree. I have read a dna ancestry testing done in the U.S. and it really caught my attention. It would help me find and complete the family tree on my father’s side. I’ve heard that my grandfather is an Indonesian and I even want to visit their place in Indonesia when we did a mission trip for two weeks. I would surely love to know my other relatives on my father’s side.

The do-it-your-own mechanic advice…

I agree with this idea and I believe this is universal. Most people, at some point in time have car trouble. I know that if you are a car owner, you at one point experienced this one. The memory is still vivid. We were going to church early in the morning one Sunday when I noticed a different sound in the car’s engine and a foul smell. My survival instinct gave a trouble signal. Suddenly flames burst from the car’s control panel and fear almost gripped me. Thanks God that I didn’t panicked. We were able to still attend the Sunday worship celebration in our church without a scratch. Accidents like this are at times unavoidable. It’s a reality that many people dread having to deal with.

I attempted to fix the car problem on my own thinking that I could save a lot of money doing it. The last thing I want is to spend hundreds or even thousands of pesos at an auto mechanic shop. I’m a bit convinced that I got the idea of how to fix the trouble. Well, I have to try to go at it alone! There’s this strong sensation of feeling like you’re the man for the job. LOL! But eventually I have to go to an auto repair shop and have the trouble repaired in a matter of an hour. With less expenses than I expected.

I almost end up messing things up, but good that I sooner realize that I can’t fix the problem. I accept the truth that I don’t have the necessary skills and the right tools to conduct an auto repair on my own. On the other hand, the auto repair shop I visited have professional mechanic just like the mechanic columbus my sister in the U.S. showed to me. You can have the peace of mind thinking that when your car is in the right hands, the professionals handling the problem have everything they need at their disposal. And of course they have the ability and the important skills to get the job done.

The next time you will be tempted to do something which you know you’re not familiar with nor are you equip to do it, well, it’s better to refer it to those who have the ability and the capacity to do it. You can even save more in doing it. That’s a practical advice we all can apply.

My Samsung Tab 2 is coming so soon. I can not help but be excited with this belated gift from a dear friend of ours. Actually, I have been longing to buy an Apple Tablet last month, but this friend of ours kept on telling us that she has a surprised gift for me… I will just wait since she got it from their head office in Manila. For sure by Monday, I can get hold of my new Samsung 10.1 Tablet.

The love of pearls in ancient times

History  tells us  that  that women  desire to adorn herself with ornaments of all kinds, especially pearls, being one of the nature's best bounties to humankind. Pearls  is the  most sought after gem because of their natural beauty and lustrous appeal. Unlike most gems which are mined, delicately cut  and shined, pearls are grown naturally in oysters in lakes or sea water.

Ancient history tells us that Egyptians used to bury pearls alongside the dead bodies of their  beloved. Remember  the Egyptian queen Cleopatra?  Historian revealed that  she  dissolved a single pearl in a glass of wine and drank it, simply to win a war  with Marc Anthony that she could consume the wealth of an entire nation in just one meal.

Pearls were considered the ultimate symbol of wealth and prosperity in old days . Pearls were limited to be worn by worriers and rulers. Many European countries passed laws forbidding the wearing of pearls by others outside of  the noble bloods. Ancient Greeks considered  pearl as a sign of happy marriage and sacred love when given during wedding.

Chinese ,Hindus  and Japanese during ancient times, always considered pearls a sign of love, health and prosperity . Example of this is the makimoto pearls Their beliefs expressed that they were tears from Heaven or Goddesses that were nurtured in an oyster's womb.

We read a lot in history about pearls. This maybe the reason why a lot of women of today love to wear pearl jewelry.

Who's behind it?

At a cultural show in Bandung, Indonesia, we enjoyed a wonderful orchestra performance. Before the finale, the 200 people in the audience were each handed an angklung, a musical instrument made of bamboo. We were taught how to shake it in rhythm with the conductor’s timing. Soon we thought we were performing like an orchestra; we felt so proud of how well we were doing! Then it dawned on me that we were not the ones who were good; it was the conductor who deserved the credit.

Similarly, when everything is going well in our lives, it’s easy to feel proud. We’re tempted to think that we are good and that it is by our abilities that we’ve achieved success. During such moments, we tend to forget that behind it all is our good God who prompts, prevents, provides, and protects.

Our house for 30 years

I have blogged last week about our  home renovation.  We realized that as the house grows old,  it is more  expensive to maintain . As much as we wanted to sell  our ancestral house, my mom is against it.  She loved the place and the memories of our house for 30 years can not be replaced by money. Bottom line is we are compelled to improve the house  even if we will spend a lot  for it.

Now, we are currently installation laminated finish for our living room. Laminate is generally  more affordable, more eco-friendly than hardwood. It is  very hard wearing, easy to install and maintain. With all these things considered, it makes good sense why we chose  laminate flooring over other  types of flooring. If you wish to know more of its advantages please  click here . You will be redirected to 17,432 Floring choices, all professionally installed and guaranteed.

Living wisely in this ungodly world

In talking to young people about preparing for the future, I’ve had several say something like this: “We must get into the world to experience ungodly situations and ungodly people in order to grow stronger.” This kind of thinking has swallowed up many immature Christians and eventually turned them against God. Sure, we’re in the world (John 17:15) and we’re exposed to non-Christian situations (school, job, neighborhood), but we need to be careful that exposure to those situations does not lead to embracing ungodly philosophies. All of us would mature faster by following the divine pattern suggested in Psalm 1:1.

Looking for a cheap life insurance with no medical exam ?

A month ago, I visited the insurance company where my mom used to enjoy a health insurance benefits. She enjoyed it for 10 years and it was worth her investment. My mom is now 76 years old and she could no longer avail of the insurance benefits as it expired last August. My mom encouraged us to get a cheap life insurance no medical exam as she stressed the importance of being covered by it due to untoward incidents that may occur. She’s very practical when it comes to things like this and told us that it’s part of a practical way of planning for our future. We really admire her for that.

Why choose carpet flooring over other types of floor finish?

I believe there are many benefits of using carpet flooring for  floor coverings . The main benefit is comfort. A carpet adds an area where you can walk in light shoes or even bare foot with ease and comfort. The softness of carpets compared with other forms of floor coverings is their main unique selling point..Although some say carpets are hard to clean and maintain, there are lots of cleaning materials and tools today which made it easy to clean. People still prefers to use carpets because when decorating a room , carpet has the ability to add light and mood by choosing colors and patterns to compliment furniture, wallpaper and lighting

Wordfilled Wednesday

My Entry for word-filled Wednesday

AT LEAST 250 Filipinos die each day...

Yes, each day, or an estimated number of 90,000 person a year, from smoking-related illnesses, cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic diseases, and cancers, especially lung cancers. In Malaysia about 10,000, and Vietnam at least 40,000, die annually from tobacco-related conditions. Indonesia?s death toll is the worst: 400,000 a year. The sad fact is that official global tobacco youth survey has revealed that the smoking prevalence among Filipino youth had jumped from 15 percent in 2003 to 22 percent in 2007, and 29 percent in 2010 and expected to go even higher as the years approaches . What do you think is the percentage as of today?

On Alcoholism

A Portion of my preaching during the Youth Sunday Celebration.

1 Corinthians 5:11 - If a Christian brother is a drinker, do not associate with him.

1 Corinthians 6:10 - Drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God

Galatians 5:21 - Acts of the sinful nature, such as drunkenness, will prohibit a person from inheriting the kingdom of God.

Changing the Look of your flooring

Nothing is permanent except change. One tough line, isn’t it? This very statement originally comes from the great Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, whose wisdom or knowledge in which by some means created impact in the people’s lives not only in ancient times but up to the present. In this permissive world we are living in, beyond doubt there is this one entire truth that people can hardly resist – CHANGE.

Everywhere you go; five years from now certainly, every detail of that place would somehow change. From the way you look now, when you get older, surely there will be natural physical changes that would take place. Others would dare try to go for surgical treatments and pay for expensive medical beauty sessions just to look younger and better. In this process, a total transformation or change takes place. Similarly, with regards to the properties you own, like your house which is close to your, you will tend to “overhaul” some parts of it, most especially the flooring. Its more advantage on your part if its improvement in terms of appearance would give you the comfort and beauty you most desired. Talking about floor improvement, some people would visit    http://www.acadianflooringamericagretna.com   wherein they sells a vast variety of flooring that will upgrade your home decor from dull to beautiful. They have a massive showroom that is stocked with every option that you can imagine, including laminate flooring, wood flooring, ceramic tile and carpet. All of their flooring options are available in a variety of styles and a rainbow of colors, so you are sure to find something that you love! My work of art

I missed doing personalized posters. The one above is just one among the many crafts I've made for my wife and children. Sad to say, all these work of arts were damaged by Typhoon Sendong. Good that I was able to upload them all through facebook. Anyway, I am thinking of making more of this in the coming days. I have visited a reliable feather company which suppliers soft, fluffy and lightweight feathers. I have one project in mind right now which will surely amazed my family.

Our house renovation

What could be attractive when you enter somebody’s home than seeing those fabulous floor designs? You could take a peek at our ancestral home. My mom has been doing renovations and it’s quite an unfinished project for her since starting it four months ago. My sister and she collaborated with this project and since then the work seemed to be unfinished until today. Our home was constructed in the 70’s and it will take a lot of repairs for those dilapidated parts of the house to bring it back to 100% ok. The reconstruction started at the old kitchen of ours. Actually we have two areas designated as our dirty kitchen since we had a furniture shop operating downstairs at our two-storey house.

After the kitchen, my mom decided to break down one room and make it a visitor’s lounge instead. The old ceiling was replaced with a new one and now with elaborate designs, the painting was changed to bright green, and a French window was installed on the other side that used to be just a wall. And of course, those floor tiles made the difference. We got this idea when browsing the net and seeing those elaborate floor tiles design at Perry's Flooring America  . Seeing the newly renovated part of our home, one can’t believe that it’s a 42-year old house. It’s one thing my mom and us can be proud of.

Public service or personal gain?

Our country are now in circus though the National Election will still be on May 2013. Aspiring politicians are guesting left and right in Tv shows, events and gathering. Ads are everywhere although they are not yet allowed to post and advertise. Ads in sponsorship of any cause they can insert themselves. Public service... this is their advocacy . Public service or personal gain? There are many ways to serve the people, one doesn't have to run for public office. Why not be a volunteer? Work for a Non-Goverment Organization. Join an advocacy group. It's like religion and priesthood. It's not a job, it's a calling. And one doesn't have to be a priest to serve God, there are many ways to do so. It's the same for public service. Some of these politicians have their hidden agenda. God help the Philippines. Give us Godly leaders.

Thera band

One of the many ways you can distress is through yoga exercises. That’s what I read on my runner’s magazine I received after completing a 10K run last August. Consisting of some body stretching and mind relaxation techniques, yoga has become popular to many athletes. Some used thera band from yogaaccessories to complete their yoga exercises and get the most out of it. My wife and her friends have tried this kind of exercise before but they stopped and shifted their interest into running and jogging around our city’s sports center. It’s more convenient for them doing this regularly after work.
