How to deal with death ?

Death is inevitable and so is the fear of it.You can choose two ways of coping with it. The first way is to think about death in a negative way . Then be alarmed on what to do and how to live without the loved-one that passed away. This way causes depression and self pity. This is not a good way to cope with death because it makes you hopeless while you're still alive. The second way (which is the right way) would be to understand that death is one of the most important parts of life. People die because this is the nature's way of clearing the old and making way for the new. In other words, don't be sad forever because someone died . Life is a great gift and we should all be thankful for the years that God allowed us to live in this world.

Waiting for the amplifier and the scholarship benefit

It’s been two months already and our son’s government scholarship grant is nowhere to be found. The cashier’s office told my wife when she went to their office that they don’t have yet the budget and they are still waiting for the scholarship grant to be released. Wow! Two months and counting and our son is becoming impatient already. He plans to buy a brand new electric guitar. His aunt in the U. S. suggested that she would buy marshall amplifiers at musicians friend as her Christmas gift for him. I hope and pray that his scholarship benefit will be released soon so we could his guitar. The amplifier would be useless without the guitar. What would arrive first ? The package from the US or the scholarship check ?

Restricted to join fun run!

This is my second FUN RUN after I undergone a major abdominal surgery last July 2013. Prior to my gall bladder removal, I am joining fun run once or twice  a month.  Now, I am restricted to just   one every quarter. How sad...

Gliding shelf are easy to install

We are currently renovating our old kitchen by adding the pull out shelves to our existing cabinets. It was difficult to organize pantry for many year s because these cabinets are difficult to arrange. Finally, we have started to install shelves that slide - not only to organize kitchen goods but also to maximize space. A kitchen sliding shelf is also called as gliding shelf, pullout shelf, and slide-out shelf. It is fitted with gliding systems and mounting brackets to let you easily pull and push each shelf inside your cabinetry. I watched the carpenter as he was installing them, I realized  I can do the same thing for  my  tool cabinet. It is not that difficult as I thought it was!

Taking care of pets this colder season

As the  colder  months approach, special attention should be given to  pets .  Like humans, dog and cats can be volatile to injury from the cold.  Yesterday, my wife brought our poodle to the Veterinary clinic because  of frequent coughing at night. The doctor explained that smaller per are more volatile to colder temperature and suggested to provide a heated dog bed in case the situation will get worst.

Potential dehydration was another concern . So a constant supply of clean water is very important . We are faced with  challenges  in keeping our  pets safe, protected and comfortable this colder season so I told our house helper to   take extra care of  our sick dog and should be able to administer the medicine and vitamins prescribed by the doctor. I pray, Chocoy will  be alright  as soon as possible.

Our Audio Man

A classic avid pro tools 11 at guitar center is what our audio man really needs. I was so encouraged to buy this stuff when I saw this line…”The most powerful digital audio workstation just got more powerful. Pro Tools 11 redefines professional music and audio production for today’s workflows. From all-new audio and video engines and turbocharged 64-bit performance, to expanded metering and new HD video workflows, Pro Tools 11 enables you to take on the most demanding sessions and maximize your creativity—without holding anything back.” Wow that sure is great! Every week, our audio man makes a recording of every preaching and lectures we have in our church and I think this is the one we need. I have to call my sister in the U.S. and let her buy this gadget for us. It would greatly improved our audio ministry in the church too.

Jesus Facts

Preach in season and out of season! This has been my motto for the last 20 years that I have been preaching. It's not only biblical but it's my mission as a minister of God. Tomorrow, I was tasked to replace a speaker who could not do the preaching because of an emergency missionary outreach in one of the Island of the Philippines which was heavily damaged by Earthquake - the Bohol Island. Thanks to my library of doctrinal studies, I can teach the topic assigned to me ( Demonology ) so easily. By God's help, I will be able to teach the congregation about how demons take different forms nowadays - like in music and movies. I hope this will bring awareness to us all to have the right perspective in choosing our music and videos. I hope those who are fans of Lady Gaga and Beyonce would not be offended.

A new Creation

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
2 Corinthians 5:17

When a person comes to faith in Christ there will be some evidence of this faith in their lives. You won’t see perfection in a Christian, but what you will see is something different in that person. You will see some evidence that a person has a relationship with Christ.

Now it’s very important to we understand that we aren’t talking about being saved by works. You aren’t a Christian because you don’t curse or smoke or cut people off in traffic or because you go to church or give money to charity.

Everyone sins and falls short of God’s glory, but through Christ we are forgiven of those sins. A Christian is someone who calls on Christ to save them from their sins. (Romans 3:23-26)
You’ll see these differences more clearly in some Christians than in others – we’re all a work in progress and we all grow in Christ at different rates. “

Why Christian Should not Quit ( Introduction )

The Bible describes Christianity as dynamic and energetic.  There's nothing lazy about it.  The New Testament uses some action-packed verbs to depict our lifestyle.  Words like:  "fight, run, contend, seize, expend, exercise, and labor."  Although Christianity offers an inner repose, it's not a life of leisure.
Fulfilling the Great Commission demands activity.  Jesus commanded Believers to "go" to reap the harvest.

Again emphasizing evangelism, Jesus used the word "compel" to demonstrate the means of tearing some people from Satan's clutches.

Even Luke's title for Acts indicates the activity demanded for Christian living: "The Acts of the Apostles."  The reason the Holy Spirit accomplished so much in the first century is because Believers were available and willing to cooperate with His plan.

If there's anyone Satan fights it's the action-oriented, "doer of the Word" Christian.  He has a full array of weaponry to distract them and He'll fire and detonate every weapon in his arsenal to oppose them.

(Illustration)  (Satan's Sale of Goods . . . hate, pride, greed, murder . . . but it's the weapon of discouragement that is so frequently used.)

The reason Satan uses discouragement against Christians so frequently is because He knows its repercussions.  Discouragement is the precursor of several disorders:

It creates a distrust of God.
It begets resentment toward others.
It indulges self-pity.
It brings guilt.
It assumes a depressed outlook of life that, in turn, creates doubt, worry, and complaining.

That's why you should carefully discern your motivation for discontinuing any Kingdom work.  Does your motivation redound to discouragement or the Holy Spirit's leading?  Never quit out of frustration or discouragement, because Satan wants to neutralize your Kingdom effectiveness.  Always remember, you are under divine orders to persevere and finish the race and that means it's impossible to quit and yet succeed in the Christian life.

(Illustration)  Golfers have a maxim that's occasionally used on the putting green.  "You can't sink a putt, short."  Meaning, if the ball isn't stroked hard enough to reach the hole it cannot be sunk.  A putt can never be sunk that is stroked too weakly.  That's why great golfers putt to the "pro side" of the hole rather than the short side.

Similarly, let me encourage you, as Christians, to aim for the pro side of the Kingdom.  Make a solid, sure shot and don't allow discouragement or other hindrances cause you to fall short or quit.

(Transition)  This sermon deals with three reasons Christians should not quit.  First, Christians must not quit because only the overcomers are crowned.  Secondly, Christians must not quit because God uses people to accomplish His plans.  And Third, Christians must not quit because, A harvest awaits every faithful worker.

God Prefers losers!

When I say God prefers losers, I mean he prefers people who know their weakness, see their flaws, admit their mistakes, and cry out to him for help. God specializes in taking losers and displaying his power through them. During a radio interview I was asked why so many of the heroes of the Bible had serious flaws. My answer was simple. That’s all God has to work with. All the perfect people are in heaven. The only ones on earth are the folks with serious weaknesses. The talent pool has always been pretty thin when it comes to moral perfection. So God works with sinners because that’s all he has to work with. In heaven we will all be perfected by God’s grace. But until then, he uses some pretty ornery people who fall short in many ways, and he does some amazing things through them.

ParenTEEN and iChange Seminars in Cagayan de Oro City

Raising a family is challenging in these economic times and influence from sources outside the home are hard to counterbalance. While every parent wants what is best for their children, every child is different in approaches to discipline, teaching and play must be customized to fit the personality and needs of each child. While every child is unique and requires individualized attention, instruction and guidance, there are some principles that apply to child rearing no matter what your child's disposition.

Christian families around the world have relied on the Bible and simple Christian parenting tips to create strong, healthy, happy families that are built on the values and instructions set forth by Christ. While life is not always easy for the Christian parent, the Bible provides a map to assist families along the path of child rearing.

In line with this objective, I am inviting all parents living in Northern Mindanao to attend this  back-to-back  Seminar for Parents ( Parenting your teenagers) and for High School and College Students ( Winning Disciplines at home ). This will be on September  7 , 2013 at the Atrium, Limketkai Mall. Two of the prime  and well respected motivational speakers , Francis J. Kong and Dr. Peter Tanchi  will  be coming  for  an enjoyable learning sessions for us all.

Guiding your children along life's path will certainly not be without obstacles and challenges. Learn some Godly principles through these seminars! Join us !

Modern Technology

Our dear friend would understand this term. I am not a very techie person and have a limited knowledge about computers. Yeah, I can type using the Word, browse the net and upon stumbling this term I was somewhat puzzled. But my friend who works a lot with computers explained to me that it is a software technology designed to repair, optimize and protect Windows PC’s. Well, I might not fully understand his explanation but I knew that this is very important in maximizing the performance of our computers at home or at the office. Our son and daughter are much into computers and I know that they knew the importance of this technology.

Thank God for the CHED Scholarship

My son was awarded a Full-merit Scholarship by the Commission of Higher Education. It was such a great blessing to be one of the selected few. Indeed God  moved in His own way. Though we were able to submit our application late,  my son was still chosen! Thank You Lord!

We need a synthesizer

An additional instrument we need for the upgrading of our musical instruments will be a synthesizer just like the EKS Pro Audio at musician's friend. A dear friend of ours who worked as the chief technician of a recording studio encouraged us to buy this piece. He’s a very good drummer and some of his friends (all of them are professional musicians) who once worked as live band performers in Japan suggested for this too. We believe that adding this to our list of instruments we planned to buy this year. It would also be a great help to the worship band especially that all of our instruments are quite old already.

Be a HERO of your time PART III

“Do not be lazy but work hard. Serve the Lord with all your heart” (Rom. 12:11).
An old adage says, “Idle hands are a devil’s workshop.” We’re made to move. We’re going to do something. So doing constructive and creative activities keeps us from doing destructive and dangerous activities. School, church, sports, chores and hobbies are good, but we need to use our time well.

A boy named Tim was playing a video game when his father walked by and held out a hard clump of clay. “Weren’t you supposed to mold something out of this for school?”

“Oh, I forgot all about my art project! I’ll have to hurry and finish it.”
“Well, I’m afraid it’s too late.” replied his father. “It’s already hard.”

Tim frowned. “I really do mean to get things done,” he said. “Only I keep putting them off.”
His dad smiled and said, “I used to do that, but then I realized that I was wasting my life. Each day is a gift from God. We must use it wisely, because it will never come our way again. So, stay busy and productive.

Be a HERO of your TIME PART II

1   E-NJOY YOUR BEING YOUNG…You might be surprised but the Bible says it’s o.k. to have some fun!
The writer of Ecclesiastes says, “Young man, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it . . . But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do” (Ecc. 11:9). So, live a balanced life. Work and study, but also hang out with your friends. Play games. Watch your favorite TV shows; but be sure your fun is something Jesus would do.

“Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. Honor your father and mother” (Eph. 6:1,2a).

Sometimes that’s hard because parents often say, “I love you!” by giving commands and restricting your freedom. They say,“Fasten your seat belt”; and “Do your homework!”; Be home by 10 o’clock”; “Don’t skateboard in the street.”

Now, they don’t hassle you because they hate you. They don’t boss you because they want to ruin your life. Instead, they do it because they love you.

Picture two knights going into battle. The first knight wears a suit of armor. His head is covered by a heavy helmet. His body is encased in massive metal plate. The second knight only wears a T-shirt and jeans.

Now, which knight would you rather be? The first knight is rather miserable. It gets stuffy and sweaty inside that heavy suit, and it’s hard to scratch your back. The second knight is totally free of such restraints. Is he luckier? No! The first knight may feel restricted by all that armor, but he wears it for his own good. The second knight may have more freedom, but he’s totally unprotected.

It’s the same with us. Our parent’s commands and restrictions protect us!

Be a HERO of your time PART 1

1    H-EAR GOOD ADVICE…It pays to listen to experience and good advice from the elders, pastors, parents and God through His word, the Bible.

“A wise son takes his father’s advice: (Prov. 13:1).
So, be patient with your parents and all adults. We mean well. Remember you have never been 30, 40 or 60 years old, but we have been 13,15 and 17.

You need to train your conscience while you’re young. Studying the Bible and listening to the wisdom of older Christians are good ways to do that.

Some kids do wrong and get into trouble because they’ve run through the red light of their conscience so many times that they’ve become color blind. Unfortunately when you run a red light, you’re likely to have a wreck.

One father, who was explaining this said, “Son, when you’re not sure what’s right, observe the yellow caution light and slow down until you know what to do.”

A wealthy man was giving a driving test before he hired a chauffeur. As the first applicant began driving, the millionaire said, “How close can you steer to the edge of the cliff without falling off” The driver, eager to show his skill, drove within a few feet of the dangerous bluff. When they finished the millionaire said, “Thank you! We’ll let you know.”

The second driver got behind the steering wheel. Again, the millionaire said, “How close can you steer to the edge of the cliff without falling off.” The driver was determined to outdo the first applicant, so he drove within inches of the cliff. Afterward, the millionaire said, “Thank you! We’ll let you know.”
A third driver was given the same instructions. But he balked, saying, “No Sir! I wouldn’t go near the edge of that cliff no matter how much money you paid me!” The millionaire smiled and answered, “You’re hired!”

You see, these requests were not intended to test the driver’s skill. They were intended to test the driver’s judgment. When he found a man who would avoid danger, even if it meant losing a job, he knew he had found a safe driver.

Young people must steer clear of danger by avoiding temptation. God doesn’t want us see how close we can get to sin without giving in. He wants us to look at temptation and say, “No way! I’m not getting near that!”

Paul says, “Run from all these evil things, and follow what is right and good” (1 Tim. 6:11).

Thanks to my BHCCCI Family

Thanks to my BHCCCI Family and for my youth core group for the tarpauline. Your messages encourages me so much. ( I was hospitalized for 10 days , a separate post will follow...)

New drum set with drum shield

Why do many young people get attracted to it? I’m talking about playing drums in a band. Many young people in our place go loco for it. A group of young ladies even volunteered to practice playing drums and master it and form a ladies’ band on their own. That great drum shield at musicians friend would surely be a much needed tool for our church to neutralize too much noise and at the same time encourage these young people to practice more. Our drum set has been with us for almost 20 years, I guess it's time to buy a new set complete with drum shield and other accessories.
