Haggai Institute

I have considered this thought years ago. Why not Get my degree online? I am talking about finishing an Education course online. With my busy schedule as a pastor on youth affairs and development in our church, I can hardly find a class schedule and decide to enroll in a legit school here in our place. So I planned to enroll in an online course. But again I failed to do it. Our executive pastor told me once that I would enroll to Haggai Institute for a three-month pastoral and leadership training in Hawaii. I’m excited to do it and is waiting for my application papers to come.

Fraternities In Comparison

I was nearly lured by my classmates to attend an initiation and be a member of a fraternity in our campus. I was on my junior high when this happened. It was difficult for me since I was warned by my parents not to be involved in any fraternity group without their consent. I have a positive idea about “brotherhood” having known several parents of my friends who are members of a fraternity group. But that was different. The time my classmates recruited me to join their group, there was an on-going conflict between them and another fraternity group because of membership issues.

I’m glad that I refused to join them that time because several of the members of their group were arrested due troubles with another fraternity faction. I’ve got to admit that I’m scared at that time since I don’t want my studies to be affected. But I also heard of some good news about the benefits of being in a “brotherhood” since it can help you in your studies and even your work in the future.

College Dropout Rates

According to a study of our education trend here in the Philippines, there are many reasons why many college students drop out of college. One of these is the financial incapacity of parents to sustain the education of their children. Poverty looms largely in many provinces here in our place where there is an ongoing conflicts between tribal groups which is a threat to our peace and order. In Mindanao alone where I was born, a few provinces belonged to the poorest of poor in our country. It is here where the number of Out-of-school youths is largely concentrated. Even in the city where I’m living, still a large group of college students won’t make it to graduation due to the high cost of education.

Sad as it may, this problem is not only prevalent here in our country. The United States, a Super power nation is not exempted with this global problem. Economic pressure, debts, threats to the peace and order, moral degradation, college drop outs, spiritual decline and many more…we all face these dilemmas in our society today. But I’m glad that in spite of the many problems our country, we Filipinos are well known as survivors and we always stand to where we have fallen. We just don’t give up easily.

College Challenges

We have young people in our church who are college students. Some of them are in the engineering, nursing and accountancy. There are times that they will find it hard to get the passing grade in subjects that are difficult and needs to take A level retakes . We often encouraged them to never give up in spite of the challenges and reach out for their dreams.

Moral Education

Thank God the Teaching Sessions in four high school classes yesterday was a success. The students at Carmen, National School  were very cooperative  even though we introduced ourselves as Value Class volunteers from an Evangelical church.  We're so glad that the school administrator allowed  one hour to teach every Thursday to their graduating section.

Is their hope for the 2011 College graduates?

This year, many of our young people in the Church will graduate. They will be the 2011 batch to finish high school and college. We are looking forward to see them march the isle and receive their diplomas and awards as they step on the milestone of success in their studies. Everyone is hopeful that the 2011 graduation with all the graduates will mean jobs and opportunities for all of them. With the impending worldwide economic crises, there is that uncertainty felt by everybody. But we remain hopeful that our graduates will be successful in their studies and fields of expertise.

Talking about College

As early as now , me and my son who is now in second year high school is talking on what course he will pursue in college. I encouraged him to choose a degree he love most. He wanted to be a lawyer just like his grand father but at the same time loves to be in the medical world like his uncle.  He also asked some  tech jobs  that will be in demand in the future.  What do you think is best for him?
